A Wright County man recently made his first court appearance on charges related to a police vehicle pursuit on March 12th that led authorities across the north metro, later ending in St. Michael.
The man has been identified as 23-year-old Charles Stiller of Waverly.
Reports from law enforcement officials in Brooklyn Center, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and the State Patrol indicate that State Troopers initially attempted to stop a GMC SUV for a traffic violation on I-94 near Broadway Avenue in Minneapolis, but the vehicle accelerated, and a pursuit began. The complaint in the case outlines the vehicle driving off the road onto sidewalks, and finally came to an end when the vehicle allegedly drove into oncoming traffic, crashing into a chain-link fence at a location in the 100 block of First Street in St. Michael.
Stiller reportedly fled on foot, and attempted to hide under a tarp in the backyard at a residence where he was later located by a K-9 officer. He faces felony charges of fleeing police and assaulting an officer. Stiller’s bail was set at 40 thousand dollars related to these charges. Authorities indicate that he was also wanted on other felony level incidents. As of late last week, he remained in custody in Hennepin County.
