#1 Monticello 71, #4 STMA 52. Samantha Voll scored 28 points and Parker Haffeman scored 16 to lead the Magic into the section finals with their home win over STMA.

Howard Lake WW 76, Annandale 68. Alex Stueven (27 points), Hunter Bush (20) and Zach Murphy with 15 helped the Lakers pull off the upset win on the road.
Norwood YA 59, Rockford 50. Mason Mooney was the top scorer for the Rockets with 17.

107 AA: Jackson Thorn (STMA), state champion, defeated Hoopman from St. Thomas Academy, 11-7.
114 A: Clayton Burkholz (HLWW), 5th.
114AA: Landon Thoennes (STMA), state champion, defeated Ethan Phanmanivong from Shakopee by tech fall.
121AA: Grant Bergeron (STMA), 2nd.
127 AA: Gabe Roehl (Buffalo), 2nd.
133 AA: Brody Bergeron (STMA), state champion, defeated Trey Beissel (Hasting), 8-1.
139 AA: Chase Mills (STMA), 4th.
145 AA: Lincoln Robideau (STMA) state champion, defeated Caden Borgen from St. Francis, 9-3.
172 AA: Aiden Herbst (Buffalo), 4th.

There is no state team tournament yet for Girls in Wrestling, but here is all the top 5 finishers from the Wright County State meet, that took place this weekend at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul.
106: Phoebe Morris (Monticello), 4th.
112: Rose Verrett (Monticello), 2nd and Ava Schultz (STMA), 3rd.
124: Abby Gindele (Annandale/ML), state champion, defeated Elle Westerman (Eagan), 6-3.
142: Emma Antoni (STMA), 2nd.
148: Courtney Kotish (Buffalo), 3rd.
170: Hailey Goth (STMA), 4th.

State Tournament at the U of M Aquatic Center.
As a team Dassel-Cokato finished 7th and Delano was 13th in Class A, while Monticello finished 25th and Buffalo 27 in AA. Below are the top finishers from each event from the Wright County Area by school.

MacKay Hoglund, 13th in 200 free, and 14th in 500 free.

Section 6AAA Semifinals.
#2 Benilde St. Margeret’s 76, #3 Delano 52. Sydney Friedly scored 25 points and added five assists as the Knights eliminated Delano for the second straight year in the semifinals. Abbie Pietila scored 29 points with 13 boards and 5 assists in the loss for Delano.
Section 5AA Quarterfinals.
#1 Providence 114, #8 Rockford 36. Maddyn Greenway (32 points) and Erica Millerbernd (31) combined for 63 points in the Lions blowout win on Saturday. Greenway also had 14 assists. Riley Freed scored 9 for Rockford.
#2 Maranatha 73, 37 Dassel-Cokato 57. Heather Sheehy hit six threes and scored 28 points in the Mustangs win.
Tuesday, March 3rd.
Boys Basketball.
Section 8AAAA Quarterfinals.
#4 Monticello 81, #5 Moorhead 63. The Magic knocked out the defending section champs on Tuesday night and advanced to the section semifinals.
#1 Alexandria 96, #8 STMA 65. The Cards rolled over the Knights on Tuesday at home as the Knights finished the season winless, going 0-28.
Section 5AA First Round.
#9 Providence 79, #8 Rockford 73. Despite Ethan Robran (23 points) and Cody Miller (21), the Rockets lost at home to the Lions, ending their season.
#10 Dassel-Cokato 63, #15 Brooklyn Center 57. The Chargers won a defensive battle to advance to the second round.
Wed, March 4th.
Boys Hockey.
Class A State Quarterfinals.
#2 Delano 6, #7 Mankato West 2. The Tigers came out flying, scoring two goals in the first 5:30 of the first period, but the Scarlets scored the next two goals, and they went to the third period tied. Daniel Halonen scored early in the third period and that opened the floodgates for Delano, as the Tigers scored four goals total in the third and roared to the victory for their first state tournament win in school history. Daniel Halonen had two goals and two assists, while his cousin Lance Halonen netted two goals and added four assists. The Tigers outshot MW, 51-27 on the night.

#4 Holy Angels 69, #5 Delano 61.
Thursday, March 5th.
Girls Basketball.
Section 8AAAA Final.
#1 Monticello 78, #2 Elk River 50. Senior PG Samantha Voll went out in style in her final home game as the Magic blew past the Elks and returned to the state tournament for the second straight year. Voll, headed to St. Thomas next year was the top scorer with 38 points.
Boys Basketball.
Section 6AA 1st Round.
#2 Annandale 80, #15 Milaca 51. Gabe Westman (22 points), and Ben Walter (18), had big games in their final game on the Annandale home court and the Cards advanced to the next round with a win over the Wolves.
#4 St. Cloud Cathedral 90, #13 Maple Lake 65.
Section 5AA Quarterfinals.
#7 Breck 88, #10 Dassel-Cokato 55. Judson Whittaker scored 21 points for the Chargers, but it was all Mustangs on Thursday night, as Breck advanced to the Section semifinals.
#11 Providence 76, #6 Howard Lake WW 74. The Lakers came into the game on a seven game winning streak, and had just upset their rivals from Annandale on the road the previous Friday, but Thursday night their season came to a heart breaking end with a home loss to the Lions.
Friday, March 6th.
Boys Hockey Class A State Semifinal.
#3 Warroad 6, #2 Delano 3. The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period, behind two goals from Daniel Halonen. In the second period the Warriors rallied for three goals and led, 3-2 going into the third. Brady Kangas tied the game at 3 for Delano early in the third, but less then a minute later Gavin Anderson gave the Warriors the lead for good as Warroad scored two more goals and advanced to the state championship. Delano will play Mahtomedi for 3rd place, Saturday morning at 9:30 AM and you can hear it on AM1360 KRWC, krwc1360.com and on our app. with the pregame starting at 9:15 AM.

Section 6AAAA Quarterfinals.
#3 Buffalo 67, #6 Washburn 66. The Bison jumped out to a 43-33 lead at the half, but after the Millers went on a 12-0 run to start the second half, it was anyone’s game. With the Millers up 66-65, the Bison had one more chance to win the game. After coach Josh Ortmann called timeout the Bison ran a play that finished with Will Mariovsky cutting to the basket and making the layup at the buzzer as the Bison walked off the Millers on Friday night. Matthew Jordan who hit a clutch three down 66-60, led the Bison with 18 points, while Thomas Jordan had 13. Mariovsky finished with 8. Michael Stevens led the Millers with 24. The Bison will take on Hopkins on Tuesday night in the Section 6AAAA semifinals at Hopkins HS, and you can hear it on AM1360 KRWC, krwc1360.com and on our app.
