Friday, Feb. 20th:

Boys Basketball

Glencoe Silver Lake 86, Annandale 85. Colton Purcell hit a tying three pointer with 16 seconds left to tie the game for Annandale on Friday night, but Ethan Sonju was fouled on a jump shot with 0.4 seconds left and his first free throw clinched the win for the Panthers. Sonju led GSL with 34 points, while Purcell led Annandale with 25 points. Owen Pederson also had a big game for the Cards with 21.

Rockford 66, Litchfield 48. Duncan McLellan hit three 3’s and scored 15 points in the Rockets win.

Buffalo 68, STMA 52.

Howard Lake WW 81, Watertown Mayer 77.

Maple Lake 75, Swanville 70.

Dassel Cokato 69, Eden Valley Watkins 63.

Girls Basketball

STMA 75, Buffalo 65. Tenlee Egan scored 19 for STMA in the win, while Brianna Eggers was the top scorer for Buffalo with 25 points.

Reese Millerbernd, #10 in black, scored 19 points for the Bison in their loss to STMA on Friday night.

Watertown Mayer 82, Howard Lake WW 34.

Saturday, Feb. 21st:

Boys Hockey

Section 5A Semifinals

#2 Monticello 4, #3 Pine City 3. Jack Sager scored of a rebound with just under four minutes to go and the Moose held on to the win at Moose Sherritt Arena on Saturday afternoon and advance to the Section finals. Liam O’ Donnell scored two goals and added two assists for the Moose, as Monticello outshot Pine City, 29-20 on the day.

Section 8AA Semifinals

#3 Elk River 3, #2 STMA 2. The Elks jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Saturday afternoon, but Tyler Bechtold and Caden Clark scored in the second period, and the Knights and Elks were tied at two going into overtime. No one scored until Luke Patrow at the 4:15 mark of the second overtime to lift the Elks over the Knights and advance to the Section finals.

Tuesday, Feb. 24th.

Boys Hockey.

Section 2A Semifinals.

#1 Delano 7, #4 Orono 3. Lance Halonen netted a hat trick, and Jacob Perlich added two goals as the Tigers got some revenge on Orono after losing to them in the same round last year. The Spartans outshot the Tigers, 23-20, but Delano scored on seven of the twenty shots.

Delano Hockey, above, is headed to the Section finals.

Girls Basketball.

Section 8AAAA Quarterfinals.

#1 Monticello 69, #8 Buffalo 29. Samantha Voll took over in the second half and scored 26 points as the Magic cruised past the Bison on Tuesday night. Brianna Eggers led Buffalo with 13.

Jaeda Smith-Olson, above goes up for a layup against Buffalo on Tuesday night.

#4 STMA 49, #5 Alexandria 43. The Knights had a late run to secure the quarterfinal victory over the Cards on Tuesday.

Annandale 82, Becker 81. Owen Pederson’s put back basket gave the Cards an 82-81 lead with just 12 seconds left, and then after a missed three by the Bulldogs, the #5AA Cards won on the road at #5AAA Becker on Tuesday night. Colton Purcell led the Cards with 38 points, while Gabe Westman netted 26.

Delano 68, Jordan 57. Four players scored in double figures led by Nate Nielson with 14 as Delano defeated the Hubman on Tuesday night.

Rockford 70, Twin Cities Academy 64. Ian Faber was the top scorer for Rockford with 21.

Glencoe Silver Lake 97, Dassel-Cokato 73. Ethan Sonju had a career high 51 points as the Panthers defeated the Chargers on Tuesday. Kaleb Kramer scored 20 for the Chargers in the loss.

Monticello 74, Zimmerman 73.

Maple Lake 83, Royalton 65.

Wed, Feb. 25th.

Wrestling.

Class AAA Team Tournament.

The two-time defending state champions from STMA came in as the #1 seed and had no problem in the first round with Brainerd, 53-11. Hastings the #4 seed got by #5 Elk River, 45-23. On the other side of the bracket, #2 Stillwater rolled over Apple Valley, 5015, while #3 Shakopee defeated Northfield, 55-18. In the semifinals, the Knights got big wins at 107 by Jackson Thorne, and 215 with Phil Harris, and cruised into the finals, with a 45-12 win over Hastings. In the other semifinal matchup, #3 Shakopee defeated #2 Stillwater, 31-29. Thursday night at 7 PM at the Grand Casino Arena, the two-time defending state champs from STMA, will seek their 12th state championship as they take on #3 Shakopee. The Sabers will be looking for their fourth state championship. You can hear the game at AM1360 KRWC, krwc1360.com and on our app.

Section 5A Finals.

#1 St. Cloud Cathedral 3, Monticello 1. In a rematch of last year’s section final, the two teams were scoreless headed into the third period. Midway through the period, Ashton Stoll scored on a power play for the Moose, and it was 1-0. The Crusaders came right back with a goal just a minute later then Caleb Trent scored at the 14:43 mark to give SCC the lead for good. SCC added an empty net goal with sixteen seconds left, and are headed back to state, where they lost in the Class A state championship game last year.

Section 5AAA Quarterfinals.

Becker 53, Annandale 23. The Cards hung tough for a half, just trailing, 20-13, but it was all Becker in the second half as the Bulldogs outscored the Cards 33-10 in the second half. Evie Eenhuis scored 13 of the Cards 23 points.

Section 6AAA Quarterfinals.

#3 Delano 84, #6 Minneapolis Southwest 19. This game was never in doubt, as Delano crushed the Lakers on Wed night, behind 21 points from Addie Iverson. Next up the Tigers will get #2 seed Benilde St. Margaret’s.

In Delano’s win over Southwest on Wed. night, Lexi Champeau #0, above, went over 1,000 points for her career during the game, and Abbie Pietila, #24 became Delano’s all-time leading scorer.

Thursday, Feb. 26th.

Class AAA State Championship.

#1 STMA 40, #3 Shakopee 18. The Knights overwhelmed the #3 seeded Sabers early and rolled to their third straight Class AAA state championship and their 12th in school history on Thursday night at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul. Below are the match-by-match results.

Section 2A Finals.

#1 Delano 6, #2 Blake 2. Lance Halonen had a hat trick, and the Tigers took over a scoreless game in the second period and skated past the Bears and into the state tournament. The Tigers were outshot, 18-17, but took advantage of their opportunities scoring six times.

Section 5AA First Round.

#7 Dassel-Cokato 51, #10 Howard Lake WW 48. The Chargers narrowly got past their rivals from HLWW and advanced to the quarterfinal round.

#8 Rockford 60, #9 Eagle Ridge 54.

#1 Milaca 71, #16 Maple Lake 36.

Boys Basketball.

Hopkins 86, Buffalo 74. Jayden Moore scored 30 points to lead the Royals to a road win at Buffalo. With the win, the two teams split the season series, which means it will come down to a vote on who will get the #2 seed in Section 6AAAA. Matthew Jordan was top scorer for the Bison with 28.

Early Action from the Buffalo/Hopkins basketball game on Tuesday night.

Annandale 86, Big Lake 68. Colton Purcell scored 35 points, giving him 73 in the last two games as the Cards rolled at home against the Hornets. Purcell also had 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Owen Pederson scored 24 for Annandale, including 18 in the first half.

Monticello 75, Becker 59. Carson Deibele (25 points) and Hunter Miller (23), combined for 48 in the Magic win on the road.

Howard Lake WW 70, Jordan 60.
