Fire departments from Cologne and 13 other communities worked to contain a barn fire in Benton Township in neighboring Carver County late Tuesday afternoon.
Carver County Sheriff Jason Kamerud reports that shortly after 4 PM, deputies were dispatched to the barn fire in the 13000 block of Naples Avenue in Benton Township near the community of Cologne.
Officials arrived on the scene to find that the barn was fully involved in flames. Authorities say the barn was unoccupied and is a total loss. A machine shed next to the barn also sustained extensive damage.
Sheriff Kamerud says preliminary reports indicate a combine may have been the initial source of the fire.
Fire departments from Cologne, Waconia, Norwood Young America, Belle Plane, Hamburg, Carver, New Germany, Plato, Watertown, Green Isle, Victoria, Chaska, Mayer, and Jordan, along with the Ridgeview Ambulance all responded to the scene.
No injuries were reported. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was notified, and is expected to investigate the cause of the fire.
