A new bill in the Minnesota House proposes giving Minnesota’s senior anglers a break on the cost of a fishing license.
Waconia Republican Representative Jim Nash says the bill would reduce the annual fishing license fee to $15 for those aged 65 and older…
“Those 65-year-olds will probably having grandkids that they may be introducing to angling for the very first time. It’s something that I think that we want to work on to make sure that we’re creating that next generation of anglers because beyond just being able to take advantage of the lakes here in the state of Minnesota, it is a huge business to our state.”
DNR Fish and Wildlife Division Director Pat Rivers says Nash’s bill does a good job of not reducing funds the DNR receives from the fees…
“Unlike the previous bill, House file 276 does not impact the sport fish restoration dollars that would come to Minnesota, so that’s a good improvement in my opinion.”
The House Environment and Natural Resources Finance and Policy Committee laid the bill over for possible inclusion in a committee bill.
