The Minnesota Department of Health is releasing the results from a survey on long COVID experience in the state.
Program manager Kate Murray says long COVID can be complicated to define…
“Tiredness and fatigue, shortness of breath, brain fog and cough. And those top symptoms were really consistent across groups, no matter their age, gender, race or ethnicity. For some people it can be persistent symptoms like they don’t really make a full recovery from their acute COVID infection. For others, they may even seem to get all the way better, but then start having these new symptoms that crop up.”
Murray says the survey found that of the nearly 1,300 respondents; more than 40% said they still suffer from lingering symptoms…
“Many survey respondents had a symptom lasting longer than three months. About one in five had long lasting symptoms that they said were severe, and 2/3 of those with long lasting symptoms reported more difficulty performing activities of daily living.”
According to a national survey, it’s more likely that roughly 8% of Minnesotans have had long COVID, which would equal about 365,000 people.
