Utility Providers Urge Customers to be Wary of Possible Scams

Additionally, if you see someone working near your home or requesting to enter your home to perform utility work, you can always ask to check their identification.”

If you think you have been targeted by a scam, there are a few things you can do…

Ending the communication, hanging up the phone or closing the door. You should also take steps to report fraud to local law enforcement, and if it’s a utility scam, specifically, contact your utility provider using the phone number listed on a recent bill.”

Solis says other common scams include someone impersonating a utility provider either over the phone or in person and demanding payment via cash, wire transfer, or gift cards.
