The Minnesota Department of Health is reminding Minnesotans with wells to get them tested.
Water Policy Manager Tannie Eshenaur says there’s some common contaminants to look out for….
“We recommend that they test for bacteria every year. We also recommend that they test for nitrate every year. And then during the life of the well, we recommend that people test for arsenic. Manganese is a concern. And then the fifth one is lead.”
Eshenaur says the good news for property owners is that there are multiple ways to get your well tested for contaminants…
“Often local government partner will offer some testing for some of the contaminants that we recommend to be tested for. Sometimes soil and water conservation districts offer testing. On our website we have a list of accredited laboratories.”
