The Minnesota DNR is urging outdoors enthusiasts to use extreme caution on the ice.
Officials say ice conditions are changing rapidly after rain, warm weather and wind. Early signs of partial open water are starting to be visible on area lakes.
Nicole Biagi, DNR Enforcement ice safety coordinator says if people still choose to go out onto the ice, you should be sure to have a plan in place in the event you fall through.
Officials say spring ice may appear thick, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s safe. Ice also can deteriorate even more quickly on a warm, sunny day, and the path onto the ice in the morning may not be safe for the return home in the afternoon or evening.
