A bi-partisan resolution passed by the U-S Senate Wednesday evening would undo President Trump’s tariffs on Canadian goods.
Senator Amy Klobuchar, DFL’er from Minnesota is a co-sponsor of the resolution…
“It terminates the President’s declaration related to the Canadian border that he is using as an excuse to impose across-the-board tariffs, which are, in fact, taxes on Canadian imports under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.”
Klobuchar said the tariffs would damage what has been one of the finest relationships in the world, and one that is vital to Minnesota…
“…with my state, it’s our number one trading partner. In fact, we do so much business with Canada that it is more than the total of our number two, number three, and number four, largest markets combined. We are the fourth biggest ag exporter, the state of Minnesota, in the country. “
Klobuchar says Minnesota exported seven billion dollars in goods to Canada in 2023 including ag products, machinery, and medical devices.
The resolution passed with the support of four Republicans. Canadian border state Senators Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins from Maine – and Kentucky Senators Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul.
