Severe Weather Awareness week continues in Wright County and throughout the state.
Today’s (Thursday) focus is on tornadoes with two statewide practice drills, the first this afternoon at 1:45, and another at 6:45 this evening.
Outdoor warning sirens will sound during these two practice drills. Wright County will test the outdoor warning sirens during both tornado drills, and KRWC Radio will also participate in the mock tornado watches and warnings.
According to the National Weather Service, Minnesota experiences an average of 40 tornadoes per year. A record 104 tornadoes were reported in the state in 2010.
Though tornadoes in April are rare in Minnesota, you might remember that in 2017, Wright County actually had its first tornado warning of the year in early March.
Safety officials remind everyone that Severe Weather Awareness Week is a time to create, update and practice emergency plans, and review where to shelter in the event of a tornado, or severe thunderstorm.
