Local Unemployment Drops in May

Wright County’s jobless rate dropped slightly last month.

New statistics from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development show that Wright County’s non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in May was 2.9 percent, down two-tenths of a point from April, and down 1.2 percent from March. The new 2.9 percent rate is slightly higher than the 2.6 percent rate in May of 2024.

Numbers show that Wright County’s labor force has stayed between 85 thousand 500 and 85 thousand 800 workers since the first of the year.

Meanwhile, Minnesota’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate in May was 3.3 percent, down a tenth of a point from April. The seasonally-adjusted U-S unemployment rate last month was 4.2 percent, unchanged from the same rate in both March and April.
