The father of a teen found deceased in an Elk River landfill now faces murder charges in the death of his son.

Jordan Collins, Sr. made his first court appearance in Anoka County on Wednesday.  He is facing second degree murder charges in the death of his son, Jordan Collins, Jr., nicknamed “Manny”.

According to the official complaint, Manny left home on May 8th to take a bus to visit his girlfriend and grandmother.  When he failed to show up, Manny’s mother filed a missing person report, and the Collins home was searched.  During the search, investigators found several items stained with what appeared to be blood in garbage bags, butcher and hunting knives in a bedroom closet, and several pieces of carpeting that were missing.  A mattress was also reported to be missing from the home.  Collins, Sr. stopped speaking to authorities following the search.  DNA from the bloodied items matched Manny’s DNA.

The autopsy on Manny Collins rules that his death was a homicide, with the criminal complaint stating that the autopsy “findings indicate evidence of a decapitation.”

After his arrest, Collins, Sr. told authorities that he had cut up the carpet and disposed of the mattress to clean up his own blood, and that the knives were for butchering sheep and goats.  At the time of his arrest, Collins, Sr. was carrying $1300 in cash, and it is believed by investigators that he was planning to leave the state.

Collins, Sr. is currently being held in the Anoka County Jail on $2 million bail.
