The Wright County area was shocked and saddened Monday to learn of the death of longtime GOP state lawmaker Bruce Anderson of Buffalo.
Anderson passed away unexpectedly at the age of 75.
Anderson was well known in St. Paul after serving in the Minnesota House from 1995 through 2012. He was then elected to the Minnesota Senate, where he served from 2013 to the present.
Bruce grew up on a rural dairy farm, and later served in the U-S Navy during the Vietnam War. He then served in the Minnesota Air National Guard, and the U-S Air Force Reserves. In St. Paul, he was a champion for both agricultural concerns and military veteran causes.
Republican Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson issued a statement Monday, calling Anderson “…a dedicated public servant, loving family man, and dear friend to many at the Capitol and in Buffalo.”
Governor Tim Walz said on social media Monday that he and his wife sent love to the family and friends of Senator Anderson. The governor called Anderson “…a steadfast advocate for those who served our nation, and he will be missed in the Senate chamber.”
The governor will now have to call a special election to fill the vacancy created by Anderson’s unexpected passing.
