Sen. Michael Holmstrom Says Federal Intervention is Needed in MN Fraud Crisis

(MN Sen. Michael Holmstrom, Jr.)

State Senator Michael Holmstrom of Buffalo is the latest GOP lawmaker to call for a stronger response to what Republicans are calling the state’s fraud crisis.

Holmstrom issued a statement Tuesday calling on U-S Attorney for Minnesota Daniel Rosen to expand federal fraud oversight amid what the senator said is ongoing, widespread fraud in Minnesota, as well as the potential links between fraud schemes and extremist organizations.

Holmstrom said…The overwhelming frequency and magnitude of fraud in Minnesota requires federal action.” The senator added…”Reports that remittances tied to fraud schemes ended up in the hands of overseas extremist organization that detest our country and our way of life isn’t just a Minnesota problem, it’s a national security concern.”

Last week, Hennepin County Judge Sarah West threw out a jury’s 7.2 million dollar home healthcare fraud case. State Attorney General Keith Ellison has filed an appeal of that ruling.

Minnesota has faced a wave of fraud cases in recent years, including the more than 1 billion dollars lost in the Feeding Our Future case, and significant fraud in the Medicaid Housing Stabilization Services program and autism services.
