Wright County unemployment reached its high water mark for 2025 in December.
New numbers from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development show that Wright County’s non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.5 percent last month, up from 3.7 percent in November, and up from the 2.7 percent rate in December of 2024 and 2023.
While seasonal unemployment factors into the jump, the 4.5 percent rate was the highest monthly unemployment measured in more than 4 years. Local unemployment was reported at 4.8 percent in February of 2021, which was the last time area jobless numbers were at or over 4 and a half percent.
Meanwhile, Minnesota’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in December was 4.1 percent, up a tenth of a point from November, and up from an even 3 percent in December of 2024.
The U-S seasonally adjusted jobless rate in December was 4.4 percent, down a tenth of a point from November, but up slightly from the 4.1 percent unemployment rate in December of 2024.
