Buffalo Fire Department Battles Two Blazes in Bitter Cold Temperatures

The Buffalo Fire Department battled two fires in bitterly cold temperatures late last week.

Buffalo Fire Chief John Harnois reports that Thursday, January 29th, fire crews were called to a home on 8th Street Northeast in the City of Buffalo for a garage fire. The fire was reportedly related to an oil burner that was in use in the detached garage. Crews were able to contain the fire to the garage, but the building suffered major damage.

Then Friday, January 30th around 1:50 PM, fire crews were called to a mobile home fire in the Buffalo Manor Park in Buffalo. Chief Harnois said a homeowner was attempting to thaw frozen pipes under the home when a fire broke out on the underside of the structure. The fire then reportedly spread up through a wall area and into the ceiling of the home.

The residents of the home were present at the time the fire broke out, and police officers assisted one person out of the home. No injuries were reported to the homeowners. Several animals were successfully removed from the home, but some required veterinary care.

The Buffalo Fire Department was assisted by fire crews from Maple Lake and Monticello. Crews were on the scene for about 3 hours. Despite the bitterly cold temperatures, none of the firefighters were injured.
