The Wright County Sheriff’s Office has officially congratulated a Sheriff’s Deputy in the department who was recently honored by the Minnesota State Patrol.
The Sheriff’s Office has added more information regarding the event for which Wright County Sheriff’s Deputy Chanse Pederson was given a State Patrol commendation for his quick action at a traffic crash scene.
Officials say while on patrol in the City of Clearwater on September 3rd of 2025, Deputy Pederson learned of a crash that had occurred on State Highway 24 just across the river bridge into Sherburne County. He quickly responded and found a vehicle on fire with a man trapped inside. Officials say Deputy Pederson used his fire extinguisher to knock down the flames, but the fire quickly reignited. Without hesitation, Deputy Pederson entered the vehicle through the passenger door and pulled the driver over the center console. The driver’s foot became stuck on the steering wheel, but a Minnesota State Patrol trooper was able to free it. Deputy Pederson then pulled the driver out of the vehicle just as it became fully engulfed in flames.

The State Patrol says because of the quick response from Deputy Pederson, State Trooper Ryan Moeser, and three civilians, the motorist’s life was saved.
The Wright County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement on Facebook this week, saying the department is proud of the heroic actions of Deputy Pederson and grateful for the teamwork shown by all of the first responders on scene. Officials also said that the department is thankful for the dedicated professionals that work in the department daily, and for the trust our communities place in the Sheriff’s Office.
