Residents Sought to Serve on Wright County Data Center Moratorium Workgroup

Residents of Wright County are being sought to serve on the recently established Data Center Moratorium Workgroup.

Recently, the Wright County Board passed a moratorium of up to 1 year on considering any potential proposals for the development of data centers within the borders of Wright County’s townships. Then at its June 16th meeting, the County Board approved the formation of the workgroup to serve in an advisory capacity and provide recommendations to the board regarding issues associated with data center development – including balancing economic development opportunities with long-term environmental, infrastructure, and community impacts.

Up to ten members could be appointed to join County Commissioners Darek Vetsch and Kirby Moynagh, and Planning Commission members, Charlie Borrell and Randy Wilson. The workgroup is seeking two township supervisors, one local utility company representative, one local water resources expert, two data center industry representatives, and four community members with interests in data center development and regulation.

The tentative meeting schedule for the workgroup is monthly on the fourth Tuesday at 9 AM at the Wright County Government Center. Meetings are expected to last about 90 minutes.

Individuals interested in serving on the workgroup are encouraged to submit a Letter of Interest no later than 12 noon on Friday, July 10th, 2026. The applicant’s name, address, phone number, and email address should be included, along with the membership category for which the applicant is seeking consideration. Also, a brief summary of the applicant’s background, experience, qualifications, or expertise relevant to the workgroup. The applicant should also provide a statement describing their interest in serving and perspective on issues related to data center development, land use planning, infrastructure, environmental stewardship, economic development, or community impacts. You should also include confirmation of the ability to attend the monthly meetings.

Letters of Interest may be submitted to: Wright County Administration, 3650 Braddock Avenue NE; Suite 3200, Buffalo, MN 55313. You may also email to: marc.mattice@wrightcountymn.gov.

Appointments for the workgroup are expected to be considered by the Wright County Board of Commissioners at its July 21, 2026, meeting.
