Firearms Deer Season Opener Saturday

Anticipation is building across Minnesota as hunters prepare to head into the woods for Saturday’s firearms deer season…

“We are excited that heading into deer season our license sales are up significantly over where we were last year. So people are buying their licenses early and they are excited for deer season.”

More than 400-thousand hunters are expected to take to the woods for Minnesota’s firearms deer season which begins Saturday morning.

Minnesota DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen says beyond being a longstanding outdoor tradition, deer hunting is also a major economic driver for the state…

“We will see that in communities across the state as the season opens people in their blaze orange in the gas stations and the restaurants heading out into the woods and the field. Outdoor recreation is a $14 billion industry in Minnesota and deer hunting is a big contributor to that.”

Hunters are encouraged to carefully look through this year’s DNR hunting regulations for complete information on this year’s season and the introduction of rifles in many parts of the state that were previously shotgun-only zones.
