There are new regulations in effect for hunting this fall in Minnesota.
For most areas of the state, including Wright County, shotgun zones for deer hunting are gone, and hunters will be able to use hunting rifles if they so desire. DNR Wildlife Section Manager Dave Trauba says however, that hunters should double-check regulations before heading afield…
“I want our hunters to check very carefully the hunting regulation booklet and our website. And there are 13 counties that elected to say shotgun only. So hunters are going to need to be aware of what county those are and that information will be available in our hunting regulation booklet.”
Most of the counties that elected to say shotgun-only are in southern Minnesota, but two west-central Minnesota counties, Kandiyohi and Pope are among the counties in the state where deer hunters will have to stick to shotguns.
Trauba says Minnesota hunters will also see changes when buying licenses and reporting game this fall…
“We now have our modernized electronic licensing system, and that changes how hunters buy their license and how you validate and register your harvest. You still have three options on how to get your license. You can stop at a vendor, you can do it online, or maybe the easiest is with downloading our app.”
The DNR says step-by-step instructions for licensing, harvest validation, and registration are included in this year’s hunting and trapping regulations booklet.
