Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office Discontinues Use of Flock Cameras

The Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office has announced that it has discontinued the use of license plate reader cameras, and has ended its services agreement with Flock Safety.

Commander Ben Zawacki with the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office says that while the department believes license plate readers can be a useful tool for public safety, he acknowledges that there has been a growing backlash against how some agencies have used the data collected by the cameras. Zawacki said the department “…puts a high value on our relationship with the people in the communities we serve.” Zawacki added that “…we don’t want to erode the trust we have with them.”

In a news release, the department said it had been using grant money to participate in the Flock cameras program on a trial basis.
