Crops Ahead of Schedule

Despite being somewhat dry this summer, officials are noticing that many crops in our region appear to be ahead of schedule, pointing perhaps to an early harvest…

The corn is looking really good. Some of the beans are starting to flip their leaves in the afternoon and showing that more reflective side of the leaf, just showing a little bit of that drought stress. But otherwise, things are looking good, things are looking early. We’re two weeks ahead of normal as far as crop maturity goes. Dough stage of so on corn, and R5 or so on beans.”

That’s Taylor Herbert, a crops specialist with the University of Minnesota Extension Service in Wright County.

This week’s U-S Drought Monitor map shows the southwestern part of Wright County to be abnormally dry, while much of the rest of Wright County is now listed in a moderate drought.
