Allergy Season Hitting Earlier Than Usual This Spring

Spring allergy symptoms are on the rise in Minnesota, and for many allergy sufferers, it’s earlier than usual. “Even earlier, maybe a month ago, maybe six weeks ago even, I’ve been having people come in with the classic symptoms of allergy, which is kind of early for them to be emerging. So, I’m seeing a lot of people get hit by these symptoms now.”

Dr. Neal Godse with the University of Minnesota says traditional over-the-counter nasal sprays and allergy tabs are good ways to combat these symptoms. “These are very safe medicines, and when we look at the studies about how well they work, this is probably the best medicine we have available.”

Dr. Godse says to keep in mind that these types of medications take “a couple weeks” to reach full effectiveness.
