Big Lake Man Critically Injured in Metro Area Crash With Transit Bus

A Big Lake man was critically injured Monday night in a two-vehicle traffic crash near the Twin Cities.

The State Patrol reports that just before 10 PM Monday, a Ram pickup collided with a smaller Ford Transit bus in Apple Valley.

Officials say both the Transit bus and the pickup were northbound on Highway 77, just south of I-35E when the pickup struck the bus and then collided with the cable median barrier.

The driver of the pickup, 44-year-old Ryan Ebert of Big Lake sustained life threatening injuries in the crash, and was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.

The State Patrol says alcohol was present in the pickup driver’s system, and he was not using a seat belt.

The driver of the Transit bus, 65-year-old Phillip Wright of Apple Valley had non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the M Health Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville for treatment.

The Apple Valley Police and Fire Departments, Allina EMS, and MnDOT assisted the State Patrol.
