A series of bills to regulate Artificial Intelligence in Minnesota were introduced this past week at the State Capitol. However, due to the lengthy discussion, the Senate Judiciary Committee ran out of time meaning no action was taken.
DFL Senator Erin Maye Quade of Apple Valley is the lead author of the legislation…
“The bills I’m presenting will not stop technological advancement. They’ll make sure AI doesn’t traumatize more people, push them to self harm or rob them of their Constitutional rights. I’m proud to be working in a bipartisan manner to protect kids, consumers, and our freedoms and liberties across Minnesota.”
There is bipartisan support for the measures in the senate. State Senator Eric Lucero of St. Michael agrees that AI needs guidelines…
“The law is not keeping up with technology. Technology has been innovating since the beginning of time. And as that technology is adopted in the private sector for use and the public sector by government, it can create a direct threat to our individual liberties.”
The bills were pushed onto the next committee hearing.
