A Big Lake man was seriously injured Saturday evening when the motorcycle he was riding ran off a Stearns County road near Clearwater.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says shortly after 6:30 PM, deputies were dispatched to the single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Stearns County Road 145 and 180th Street in Lynden Township, about 4 miles southwest of the City of Clearwater.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they found that the motorcycle had been traveling westbound on the county road and failed to negotiate the southbound curve. The rider laid the bike down, resulting in it running off the road and striking a road sign.

The rider, 35-year-old Kyle Erickson of Big Lake, was thrown from the motorcycle, and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital by Mayo Ambulance.

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Clearwater Fire and Rescue, and the State Patrol assisted the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office at the scene. The incident is still under investigation.
