The Minnesota Board of Animal Health has confirmed another outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza, this time at a turkey operation in neighboring Meeker County. Officials say the operation has more than 132 thousand birds.

Doctor Shauna Voss says though there are still outbreaks, producers have come a long way in preventing the spread of bird flu since a major outbreak devastated the industry in 2015…

“The good news is that the industry is pretty conscientious about looking for clinical signs and getting the birds tested. And once we identify a case we do a lot of surveillance around that area to make sure there is no other virus that’s circulating.”

Bird flu was also recently detected in flocks in Otter Tail and Swift counties. Avian influenza reappeared in mid-September after a five-month break in Minnesota.
