Continuing U-S Government Shut Down Halts New Snap Applications in MN

Another direct result of the on-going federal government shutdown is that Minnesota is forced to halt new food assistance applications.

MNN’s Tasha Redel reports…

As of 10 PM on Wednesday, counties stopped approving new SNAP applications. The Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families says federal funding is drying up, and November benefits may not be paid without congressional action. SNAP supports 450,000 Minnesotans, many of them children and working families.”

The federal government shut down is also holding up critical funding for the state’s energy assistance program, which helped about 125 thousand Minnesotans to heat their homes last season.
