Demolition crews took down the longtime Buffalo Community Center, and former Buffalo American Legion building in downtown Buffalo on Monday.

Mykelti Blum with the City of Buffalo says for many residents, it’s the end of an era in the downtown area…

There’s a lot of emotions that comes with that for people that the building has meant so much to them…and I’m so grateful that we have the new Buffalo Community Center that has just been thriving let me tell you. People have just been loving it and all the programs for all ages that are taking place there.”

Blum says the future for the site has not yet been decided…

A lot of people have asked what’s going there…I see that question a lot. Is it parking, is it grass space, is it another building? And right now it’s just going to be grass space, so that will just be left as of right now.”

Monday’s demolition follows another recent demolition of the former Napa Auto Parts, and Esau’s Grocery Store building in downtown Buffalo.
