The dig-out and clean-up is continuing today after a strong winter storm rolled through much of central and southern Minnesota Saturday night and through much of the day on Sunday.
The storm easily broke the previous snowfall record of about 5 inches for March 14th, although the heavier snow started later, and ended earlier than predicted, keeping overall totals lower than early predictions. The delay in the arrival of the storm allowed most of the scheduled events on Saturday including the Maple Lake St. Patrick’s Day Festival, and the Special Olympics Polar Plunge in Buffalo to go on as planned.
In Wright County, 6 to 8 inches of heavy, wet snow was common, with slightly higher totals to the south and east into Hennepin and Carver Counties.
Air traffic was halted for much of the weekend at MSP airport, and numerous traffic crashes were noted by the State Patrol.
Traffic was beginning to move in much of Wright County by the early afternoon on Sunday, and today, just a few school districts delayed or canceled classes for the day.
Caution is advised for those who continue to move snow dropped by the storm as the high-moisture content snow is heavy, and can be dangerous for those not conditioned to strenuous activity.
KRWC Radio will continue to post weather-related announcements on the KRWC website today.
