Federal, State, County and City Offices Closed for Juneteenth Holiday

Federal, state, county and city offices are closed today honoring the “Juneteenth” holiday.

June 19th is remembered as the day in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to ensure that the last of all enslaved people were freed, though it was actually more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Congress passed a bipartisan resolution in 2021 establishing Juneteenth as a federal legal public holiday, making it the first new federal holiday since Martin Luther King Jr. Day, established in 1983.

Post offices are closed today, as are most banks. Most retail locations and gas stations are open normal hours today.
