Minnesota’s big game fishing opener returns this Saturday, and anglers in Wright County and across the state are looking forward to the long-standing tradition.
DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen says the fishing opener in Minnesota is unique…
“One of the things I love about fishing opener is that you can really see the activity that it generates in communities all across the state. No matter where you are in Minnesota, you will see welcome angler signs on businesses. You will see people out and about towing boats, launching boats, walking around with their fishing rods and their gear and their trucks.”
Strommen says fishing isn’t just a pastime in Minnesota—it’s also a major economic driver, supporting thousands of jobs and bringing in millions of dollars each year to communities across the state…
“Outdoor recreation is about a $15 billion industry for the state. Fishing and boating is more than $5 billion generated for the state. And you see that very visibly on fishing opener in communities all across our state.”
