Heating Assistance in Question as U-S Government Shutdown Continues

Departments within the state government are weighing options as the federal government shutdown continues.

Lissa Pawlisch with the Division of Energy Resources in the Minnesota Department of Commerce says workers in the department have deepening concerns about how to help Minnesotans who may need to use the heating assistance program this winter…

For the folks who are doing this work day in and day out, there’s just that anxiety of when will we be able to start making payments. I think that what is essential and important is that we are still taking in those applications doing that review and making sure that we’re ready. But obviously there is a level of anxiety.”

Pawlisch says the odds of federal funding for the program being delayed are increasing the longer the government shutdown continues.
