The Historic Hanover Bridge is undergoing emergency repairs after the city council in that community approved funding at a recent meeting.
In a recent Facebook post, Hanover Mayor Greg Zgutowicz explained that earlier in the summer, during a routine inspection with the county, the bridge was found to have some immediate structural issues, specifically missing and cracked pins caps, that required the bridge to be closed.
The mayor said the council approved up to $50,000 to complete immediate repairs to help safeguard the structural integrity of the bridge, though the mayor said this work is a first step, as a more thorough inspection and repair will need to be completed before the bridge is re-opened to the public.
The mayor said repairs are being made in accordance with the requirements allowing the bridge to maintain its historical designation.
