Authorities are continuing their investigation into a three-vehicle traffic crash that happened Monday afternoon in Monticello Township.
The Wright County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene of the crash at County Road 37 and Edmondson Avenue, or County Road 117 shortly after 4:15 PM. Authorities say a Chevy Impala passenger car, and two Toyota Rav 4 SUVs collided at the intersection.
Officials say the Impala was stopped at the stop sign on southbound Edmondson Avenue. The vehicle then proceeded into the intersection where it was struck in the driver side by the Rav 4 that was westbound on County Road 37. After the initial collision, the other Rav 4 that was eastbound on 37 then crashed into the passenger side of the Impala, which was at the time stopped in the intersection area after the initial impact.
The driver of the Impala, was identified as 18-year-old Hannah Simonson of Cokato. There were reportedly four passengers in the Impala. Three of the passengers, who were reportedly all juveniles, were transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor to serious injuries. The driver and another passenger reportedly sustained minor injuries.
The westbound Rav 4 ran into the ditch following the crash. The driver, a juvenile female from Excelsior was transported from the scene with minor injuries. There was no report of injuries to the driver of the eastbound Rav 4, identified as 37-year-old Samantha Tiegs of Buffalo.
Reports indicate that the intersection was closed more than 30 minutes following the crash. The area in question is carrying a considerable amount of daily traffic as a major detour route while Highway 25 is under construction this summer.
