Members of the Minnesota Pork Board were among farm group members that recently took part in the recent Fall Legislative Action Conference in Washington, D-C.
Maddie Hokanson of Goodhue is a director on the Minnesota Pork Board. She says several ag policy issues were on the minds of her group when they met with federal lawmakers…
“We talked about the farm bill and making sure there’s a Prop 12 fix able to be added into that. Talked about H-2A visa reform and the need for that to be a full-year program.”
Hokanson says international trade is another concern to the pork industry…
“Pork exports are down about 3 1/2 percent, so really looking to increase that (by) finding new markets elsewhere in the world. And increasing the ones from those relationships that we currently have.”
Hokanson says pork producers also expressed to lawmakers the importance of including pork as part of a healthy diet following the release of the Make America Healthy Again Commission report.
