MN Association of Townships Scholarship Applications Open Thru May ’24

High school juniors in the area are reminded that the Minnesota Association of Townships (MAT) is still accepting applications for the 2024 Scholarship Program. Officials say up to five $2,000 scholarships will be awarded.

The Scholarship Program is designed to heighten awareness among young people about Minnesota’s townships and grassroots government that those townships provide.

Any students currently enrolled in 11th grade and attending a Minnesota public, private, or parochial school, or those in a home-study program, are eligible to apply.

Applicants should submit a written essay using critical thinking on the topic of promoting awareness of township government, and submit them by June 1st, 2024. This year’s essay question on promoting township government is; “Describe ways in which broadband Internet access improves the lives of rural residents. What challenges exist in providing broadband in rural areas, and what policies should governments at all levels adopt to ensure that regardless of geographic location, all Americans have equal access to broadband Internet?”

Winners will be chosen by an independent panel of judges and will be notified in September of this year. Scholarship recipients will also be invited to attend to attend the MAT’s annual conference in St. Cloud in December.

For more information and application details, call the MAT offices at 1-800-228-0296, or visit the MN Association of Townships website at; www.mntownships.org.
