MN Biofuels Industry Pushes for Year-round E-15

A proposed federal rule would allow retailers in the state to permanently sell E-15 gasoline, even during the summer driving season.

Brian Werner of the Minnesota Biofuels Association says two dozen renewable fuel and corn organizations recently sent a letter to federal officials with specific requests.

A coalition led by Midwest governors is urging federal officials to approve the year-round sale of E-15 gasoline in Minnesota and seven other states. Werner says the governors petitioned the EPA for a change in fuel blends under a provision in the Clean Air Act.

Werner says an EPA rule which he calls “outdated,” prohibits the sale of E-15 from June through September, though sales have been allowed this summer under an emergency waiver.

Minnesota leads the nation with nearly 430 gas stations that sell E-15.
