More than 750 faith leaders from across Minnesota have signed a letter urging Governor Walz and state lawmakers to hold a special session on gun control issues, including a ban on assault rifles.
Reverend Ingrid Rasmussen of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in the Twin Cities, along with about 70 other clergy members, delivered that letter to the governor Wednesday, on the six- week anniversary of the mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis…
“Part of our action yesterday and in the days to come is to remind elected leaders and remind the wider community that we don’t intend to forget this.”
Governor Walz has stated that he may attend town hall meetings to address the gun issue. Rasmussen says faith leaders would also like to be a part of those town hall meetings to carry a message of support to lawmakers concerned with breaking political rank, or risking political security by voting for a ban…
“We promised Minnesota’s governor, senators and representatives will not stand alone. That there are leaders of faith in every corner of the state who are ready to back leaders publicly when they call a special session to ban assault rifles and high-capacity magazines.”
The faith leaders continue to hold “7 Days of Prayer and Action” on the capitol steps each day at noon.
