MN Health Department Makes COVID Vaccine Recommendations Against Federal Guidelines

State health officials broke from recent federal guidance and are endorsing COVID-19 vaccine recommendations. You’ll remember that a CDC panel recently decided to abandon the previous universal recommendation for updates on the COVID-19 vaccines, changing to an “individual decision-making” position on COVID shots. Under the new guidance, U-S adults 65 and older are the only category advised to get the vaccine using this approach.

MDH Medical Director and State Epidemiologist Dr. Ruth Lynfield calls vaccines one of the greatest public health achievements in modern medicine…

We thought it was important to ensure that any Minnesotan who wanted to have that vaccine ought to be able to get it.” “They are safe, they are effective, they prevent severe disease, they prevent hospitalizations. They can prevent deaths. Absolutely. And we want to ensure that they are available to Minnesotans.”

Dr. Lynfield says pharmacists who want to, can provide the COVID vaccine to those ages 3 to 64.
