A Monticello man and his son were killed, and other family members were injured in an unusual traffic incident while traveling in South Dakota in recent days.

MNN’s Tasha Redel has more…

“31-year-old Stephen Clayton and his son, David died October 12th when a wheel detached from a trailer on Interstate 90 near Kimball (South Dakota). The wheel crossed the median and struck their mini-van. Clayton’s pregnant wife, Katie, sustained life-threatening injuries. The couple’s 11-month-old son was treated for minor injuries. Clayton had served as pastor of the Becker Evangelical Free Church since 2024.”

Sources say the Claytons were returning from a visit with family in Spearfish, South Dakota when the crash occurred.

Funeral services for Pastor Stephen Clayton and his son will be held Friday in Mounds View. Meanwhile, a GoFundMe campaign to support the family has reportedly already surpassed its original goal of $250 thousand dollars.
