Road Weight Restrictions to Begin Monday, March 3rd

The unusually mild weather we’ve experienced for the last week to 10 days has played a role in the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s announcement that the annual spring load weight restrictions on area roads will go into effect on Monday.

The Wright County Highway Department confirms that MnDOT’s spring load restrictions for vehicles allowed on specific roads will take effect at 12:01 AM Monday, March 3rd.

The restrictions are put in place annually to preserve the life of roads, which are at their most vulnerable when frost comes out of the roadbed and temperatures go above and below freezing on a consistent basis.

Typically, the restrictions last for approximately eight weeks, which would have the restrictions come off by late April, or early to mid-May. Locally, the Wright County Highway Department will provide a similar notification when the weight restrictions are lifted.

To learn more about why these restrictions are in place or to see a map of the 2025 road restrictions, go to the Highway Department webpage.
