Saturday Halloween Raises the Stakes for Road Safety

Halloween brings added dangers to the road every year, but AAA is urging motorists and families to be especially cautious this year as Halloween falls on a Saturday.

AAA’s Brynna Knapp says that having Halloween fall on a Saturday means that it’s likely more people will be out after dark, which is all the more reason to watch for kids in costume, or someone riding on an e-bike or e-scooter.

Drivers are urged to slow down in neighborhoods where trick-or-treating will be happening, eliminate distractions, never drive impaired, and expect the unexpected.

Parents and caregivers of trick-or-treaters can help the safety cause by making costumes easier to see, and keeping costumes safe for walking. Adults can also help to make sure children cross where drivers expect pedestrians. Those who will be on foot accompanying youngsters should also put away distractions such as phones and earbuds.

Adults should also thoroughly check all treats or toys collected by youngsters before letting them dig in.
