Sen. John Hoffman’s Family Sues Attacker on Numerous Charges

Minnesota Senator John Hoffman’s family has filed a civil suit against Vance Boelter, the man accused of carrying out a targeted political attack last June.

MNN’s Ashley Walker has more…

“57-year-old Boelter disguised himself as a police officer and went to the Hoffmans’ Champlin home June 14th, 2025. He opened fire after a confrontation, shooting Hoffman and his wife Yvette multiple times. They both survived while shielding their daughter, Hope. The lawsuit accuses Boelter of assault, battery, emotional distress, and negligence, claiming he stalked the family ahead of the attack. It also details lasting physical and psychological injuries suffered by all three family members.”

Boelter remains in custody and has not yet responded to the lawsuit. Boelter is also accused of the fatal shooting of Minnesota House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark, and their dog. It’s unknown at present whether he will face the death penalty for those crimes.

Senator Hoffman serves a small portion of Wright County included in Senate District 34.
