September is Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month

Minnesota continues to lose hundreds of people to suicide each year, and a leading suicide-prevention advocate says some of the trends are moving in the wrong direction.

Erich Mische is the CEO of SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education). He says about 845 Minnesotans died by suicide last year…

What we see throughout the years are different trends that happen as it relates to suicide in Minnesota. We know that suicide deaths with a firearm continue to increase. We’re starting to see increases in suicide rates among young people.”

Mische says Minnesota has made progress among some groups, but overall suicide rates remain far too high. September is Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month.
