This year’s Minnesota State Fair Poll found that more than 75% of respondents favor a ban on the possession of semiautomatic military-style assault weapons.
Hamline University political science professor David Schultz says the result mirrors polling seen across the country…
“When you start to talk through now and ask people questions like, do you support a ban on assault style weapons? How about background checks? How about 24 hour waiting periods? You start to see nationwide huge majorities supporting these measures.”
Schultz says it’s important to note however, that the way a question is asked often has a significant impact on the response it receives.
