Strong Law Enforcement Presence Tuesday Morning in Waverly

Numerous law enforcement officers from the Wright County Sheriff’s Office and other departments were in the community of Waverly Tuesday morning, searching for a suspect that had fled the Twin Cities area.

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office released information mid-morning that around 7:44 AM, West Hennepin Public Safety had notified Wright County that a vehicle pursuit was in progress, and that the suspect vehicle was westbound on Highway 12 nearing the community of Delano.

Authorities reported that the suspect vehicle had been reported as stolen, and the suspect failed to stop for law enforcement in Hennepin County.

Several citizens reported that the suspect vehicle was driving recklessly through Delano, then into the community of Montrose, and eventually into Waverly. It was there that the suspect reportedly abandoned the stolen vehicle and was reported to have been seen on foot.

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office dispatched deputies, a K-9 unit and a UAV team to the area along Highway 12 in Waverly to attempt to locate the suspect who was described as a white male, 5 feet 11 inches tall, around 230 pounds wearing a red hooded sweatshirt. The individual was said to have been identified through an alert from the Minneapolis PD for a reported domestic assault involving a firearm. The Humphrey Elementary School in Waverly was placed into “secure mode” as a precaution.

Despite a lengthy search, the Sheriff’s Office reported that by late morning, the suspect was no longer believed to be in Waverly or Wright County. The department reportedly is continuing to follow up on leads outside of Wright County.

No injuries or threatening situations associated with the event were reported.
