Triple-A researchers are taking a closer look at what motivates drivers who commonly exceed the posted speed limit, no matter what that limit might be.
Spokesperson Brynna Knapp says research finds many motorists believe there’s a cushion before police will actually stop them…
“We also found that many drivers don’t expect enforcement until they are driving roughly 10 to 12 miles per hour over the road. So people are driving over the posted speed limit with the thought that they aren’t going to get pulled over unless they’re going at a really egregious speed over the speed limit.”
Triple-A research found the threat of a ticket may be one of the strongest ways to get drivers to ease off the gas, with nearly 80 percent saying it would make them slow down.
