Wright County Area Scores for the Week of Friday, Feb. 23-Sat. March 2nd.

Friday, Feb. 23rd.

Girls Basketball.

Buffalo 56, Edina 45. The Bison won their first Lake Conference game of the year on Senior night with a win over the Hornets. The Bison jumped out to a 37-11 halftime lead and were lead in scoring by 8th grader Brianna Eggers with 13 points.

Wayzata 71, STMA 58. Despite 23 points from Ja’Kahla Craft, the Knights didn’t have enough on the road against Wayzata on Friday night.

Annandale 61, Howard Lake WW 36.

Glencoe Silver Lake 71, DC 50.

Maple Lake 54, Breck 36. Avery Lee scored 19 points in the Irish win.

Boys Basketball.

Annandale 87, Howard Lake WW 54. Isaak Eenhuis dominated the game for the Cards with 15 points and 13 rebounds, including two monster dunks.

Wayzata 70, STMA 48. The Trojans jumped out to a 22-point halftime lead and rolled from there.

Rockford 66, New London Spicer 59. Four players scored in double figures, led by Ty Kuvalik and Jacob Eisentrager’s 13 points each.

Edina 51, Buffalo 46. The Hornets erased an eight-point halftime deficit by smothering the Bison on defense in the second half. Mitch Friesz scored 15 points in the loss.

Holy Family 90, Delano 63. Will Strandemo scored 46 of the Tigers 63 points but it wasn’t nearly enough against the Fire.

DC 79, Glencoe SL 54.

Saturday, Feb. 24th.

Boys Hockey.

Section 8AA Semifinals: #6 Buffalo 2, #7 St. Cloud 1. Eli Tiernan scored both Bison goals, including the game winner 5:07 into the first overtime as the Bison advanced to the Section finals. “Moose” Varner stopped 34 of 35 shots in the game for the Bison.

Section 5A Semifinals: #2 Monticello 3, #3 Little Falls 2. The second seeded Moose advanced in triple overtime to advance to the Section finals. Ashton Stoll scored two goals in the game and netted the game winner at the 6:29 mark off triple overtime, to advance the Moose.

Section 2A Semifinals: #3 Minneapolis 6, #2 Delano 3. Three goals in a two-minute span in the second period by Minneapolis was the difference as the Novas advanced to the section finals. Joseph McCabe scored two goals in the game for Delano.

Girls Gymnastics State Meet.

Roy Wilkins Auditorium.

Class AA.

STMA’s Jackie Bergeron took home the all-around championship on Saturday afternoon. Bergeron finished first on the vault, 1st on the balance beam, and first on the floor, while finishing 11th on the uneven bars. Bergeron finished second last year at state and improved by one spot to become a state champion this year. As a team, Lakeville South won the state championship, STMA finished 5th.

Other Wright County Area Athletes and how they fared at state.

STMA:
Paige Herbst finished 25th overall. Herbst was 34th in vault, 22nd in uneven bars, 21st in balance beam and 25 on the floor.
Addy Miller, 43rd in vault.
Avery LeMonds, 11th in uneven bars, 20th in balance beam, and 19th on floor.
Alyssa Herfel, 28th in balance beam.

Buffalo:
Kaylee Dehmer, 40th in uneven bars.
Lydia Field, 26th on floor.

Class A.

Lauren Hanson from Monticello finished third overall in the all-around at state. Hanson was 12th in vault, 8th in uneven bars, 5th on floor, and 4th in balance beam. As a team, Becker was the surprise winner, as they upset the two top seeds to take home the title.

Delano: Cora Hinkle, 23rd in vault, 47th on the balance beam, 40th on the floor, and finished 24th overall in the all-around.

Dassel-Cokato: Kim Aho, 38th in vault, 35th on the balance beam, 25ht on floor, and 23rd overall in all around.
Mariah Anderson, Top 50 in the vault.

Monticello: 

Alana Beckland, 12th on uneven bars.
Seinna Zepeda, 16th on floor.

Section 8AA@Brainerd.

The team champion was Brainerd, below are the qualifying state swimmers and divers from Buffalo and STMA.

Boys Hockey.

Section 8AA Final: #4 Elk River 3, #6 Buffalo 0. Daniel Bobcock scored the opening goal of the game, and added another goal late in the first period, and the Bison never recovered as the Elks advanced to state. This was the Bison’s first Section final appearance since 2002.

Section 5A: #1 St. Cloud Cathedral 4, #2 Monticello 1. Cathedral scored three first period goal’s, and despite a late push by the Moose, it wasn’t enough as the Crusaders advanced to state. SCC outshot the Moose 39-27.

Girls Basketball.

Section 8AAAA Quarterfinals: #1 STMA 90, #8 Bemidji 27. The defending state champs jumped out to a 52-14 halftime lead and cruised from there. Ja’Kahla Craft lead the Knights with 15 points, while Ava Haus scored 14.

Section 8AAAA Quarterfinals: #2 Elk River 73, #7 Buffalo 37. Brylie Guida and Vienna Bechtold scored 8 points each in the season ending loss for the Bison.

Section 6AAA Quarterfinals: #2 Delano 79, Richfield 36. The Tigers won at home to advance to the semifinals on Saturday, a game you can hear right here at AM1360 KRWC, pregame starting at 1:45 PM.

Thur., Feb. 29th.

Girls Basketball.

Section 5AA 1st Round.

Dassel-Cokato 63, Blake 45. Aubrey Quern scored 20 points as the Chargers upset Blake on the road to advance to the next round in the section.

Aubrey Quern, above, lead the Chargers to a road win at Blake on Thursday night to advance the Chargers into the next round.

Southwest Christian 74, Rockford 39. Rayna Johnson was the only player in double figures with 13 points in the Rockets loss.

Section 6AA.

Annandale 67, Legacy 40. The Cards upset Legacy on the road, behind 25 points from Julia Bishop.

Section 5AAA.

#2 Monticello 63, #7 Big Lake 28. Samantha Voll scored 14 as the Magic rolled into the semifinals with a win over the Hornets.

Boys Basketball.

Annandale 74, Esko 73. The Eskimos looking for some revenge after losing to Annandale in the State Quarterfinals in football, jumped out to a 34-14 lead over the Cards, but Annandale charged back to win in overtime. Nick Walter hit a three with seconds left to tie it, and Annandale took their first lead of  the game in overtime and never looked back.
